The big skies and huge spaces of Fowlers Gap in Western NSW were the inspiration for ‘Solitude’. A very strong painting depicting the last rays of the setting sun on the landscape. Oil on deep edge stretched canvas.

On New South Wales northern beaches at Seven Mile beach. I can stand for ages watching the sea pitting itself against the strength of the solid rock shelf.

Western Australian in 2019, camping on a headland beside the water. Little quail had made their homes in these tufted grasses and rustled in and out beside us. It made me think of all the minutiae living around us, unnoticed and unseen. I wanted to represent the world from their view, hence the focus on the grasses and hidden tracks.

There is a brilliance to the colour of the sea in Western Australia which is unlike anywhere else. Coming over a sand dune through the beach grasses in Broome, the broad expanse of beach is laid out against the teal water.
