‘Silent Witness’ is about histories within the landscape, the interaction of people and the land. In many instances, nature has reclaimed the spaces which Europeans had settled and these spaces have poignant stories to tell of hopes and broken dreams. Words such as memory, disappearing, transience  and absence come to mind, but there is whimsy too.

The pictures also depict the beauty and the power of the landscape. I want the viewer to feel they are in the painting rather than being an observer, so I paint atmosphere, what it feels like to be in the space, the sense of light and colour, the feeling of heat, the energy of wind.

Exhibition ‘Silent Witness’ showed from December 9, 2014 at the Depot II Gallery, 2 Danks St Waterloo
