This Exhibition Coastlines evolved from many years making sketches as I travelled along Australia’s east coast.  More recently, other extended trips included New Zealand and Western Australia.  Sketching as I travelled along the Kimberley coast, the Pilbara, Ningaloo Reef and the Coral Coast to Perth were particularly enthralling. I was constantly absorbed and my husband and extended family were patient enough to wait or go fishing for the day.

The works from the East to the West show great contrasts and variations in colour and mood. I’ve been drawn to the beauty of the cliff lines, shallow protected beaches, quiet salt-laden lagoons, and stormy seas. The intensity of the red and turquoise of the Kimberley and Coral coast in the setting sun contrasts vividly with the softer often moody colours of morning in the East.

In these paintings I’ve been inspired by the effects of light, the incredible energy of the turbulent seas, the serene bays, rocky shores and the quiet unspoilt beaches found all around Australia.  I hope you enjoy them.

Exhibition open Wednesday to Sunday, from 23 October – 10 November, 10am – 4pm
