In March this year I was lucky enough to join a group of painters with Kerri Ainsworth and Idris Murphy on an artists retreat on Flinders Island in the Bass Straight.What a stunning and inspiring place .

Surrounded by the Strezlecki range on three sides, our lodge looked out to the sea. Beautiful cove beaches surrounded by red lichen coloured rocks and the turquoise seas made wonderful locations.

However it was the misty mountains and the forests which inspired me the most.

 

I loved the twisted shapes of the Low lying coastal scrubs sculpturally defined by the high winds and wild weather. I was also inspired by the tall white paperbarks contrasting with the deep green of the mountain forest.

The abundance of wildlife – wombats and their babies, countless wallabies and the beautiful gold echidna, which didn’t seem fussed by my presence, completed the picture. All shared with a fabulous group of like minded artists. What more could you want.
